The Anytime Fitness chain formalizes several changes: Thomas Leverton takes over as president following the departure of founder and chain president David Allen Mortensen and Robert John Pindred in a group restructuring.
Executive renewal at Anytime Fitness. The American gym chain has carried out a restructuring of its Board of Directors, according to documentation published in the Official Bulletin of the Commercial Registry (Borme). The company Anytime Fitness Iberia S.L. formalized on April 3 a renewal of its governing body.
The revocations affect four positions: David Allen Mortensen ceases to be director, president, and chief executive officer. The co-founder of the company in 2002 alongside Chuck Runyon steps aside from his positions in the company. For his part, Robert John Pindred loses his position as Chief Executive Officer and will also leave the board of directors.
The appointments fall on Thomas Joseph Leverton, who assumes the position of director and president of the Board of Directors, and Laura Pons Estradé, who joins as non-director secretary. Jorge Adell Sánchez was also finally revoked as non-director secretary. A total of two new directors are leaving their positions, which for now has only been replaced by one.
Thomas Joseph Leverton will now be the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of Anytime Fitness Iberia. An engineer by training, he had previously served as operating partner at Pritzker Private Capital and as chief executive officer of CEC Entertainment (parent company of Chuck E. Cheese), Topgolf, and Omni Flight. Purpose Brands, the $3.7 billion company formed by the merger of Orangetheory Fitness and Self Esteem Brands (parent company of Anytime Fitness), appointed Leverton as chief executive officer at the end of 2024.
Anytime Fitness aims to reach 60 operational gyms in Spain
The departure of David Allen Mortensen from the Spanish board is particularly significant: Mortensen serves as president and co-founder of Self Esteem Brands, that is, one of the two original founders of Anytime Fitness and president for more than 24 years.
In Spain, a market it entered in 2012, Anytime Fitness projects reaching 60 operational gyms by year-end, with a business of €6.5 million in the country. In line with its expansion plans in the country, the company announced just a few days ago its arrival in Galicia, with its first center in Ourense.
Although the company does not disclose its financial results, VF Franchise Consulting places Anytime Fitness among the largest fitness franchises on the planet, with an estimated business of $1.73 billion in revenue.
