NEW YORK — Nike Inc. and Lululemon Athletica Inc. have agreed to dismiss a federal lawsuit in which Nike accused Lululemon’s Mirror home workout system of infringing on several of its digital fitness patents.

According to a joint filing submitted Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, both companies agreed to dismiss the case with prejudice, precluding Nike from refiling the lawsuit in the future.

Nike initially filed the lawsuit in early 2022, alleging that Lululemon’s Mirror interactive fitness device violated six patents related to mobile fitness and tracking technology. The patents in question covered digital innovations that enable users to monitor exertion levels, track performance, and compete with other platform users.

Lululemon, which acquired Mirror for approximately $453 million in July 2020, denied the infringement claims later that year.

The legal dispute was temporarily paused in 2023 while Lululemon challenged the validity of Nike’s patents before a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office tribunal. The tribunal ultimately invalidated key portions of five of the six patents, a decision that stood after Nike lost subsequent appeals.

The resolution of the Mirror dispute marks the conclusion of a broader legal feud between the two athletic apparel giants:

Footwear Infringement Lawsuit: In 2023, Nike separately sued Lululemon, claiming certain running and training shoes infringed on two Nike sneaker structure patents.

Jury Verdict Overturned: Although a jury initially awarded Nike $355,450 in damages for one patent, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian overturned the verdict in March after ruling the patent invalid.

Final Dismissal: Both parties formally agreed to dismiss Nike’s appeal in the footwear case in May.

Representatives for Nike declined to comment on the latest court filing, while Lululemon spokespeople did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding potential settlement terms.
