July 15, 2025, UK-based startup company Freeaim announced the launch of its VR Shoes to the consumer market, with a crowdfunding campaign kicking off today on Kickstarter. The motorized footwear solution enables natural walking in virtual environments while keeping users safely within a confined physical space.

What are Freeaim VR Shoes?

Demonstrated last month at AWE USA 2025, Freeaim’s VR Shoes are designed to improve immersion and reduce motion sickness by enabling physical locomotion in virtual reality (VR) without the use of joysticks or teleportation. The company states that the technology has been tested with hundreds of users and is intended to address challenges related to limited physical space and user comfort in immersive VR.

How do the VR Shoes work?

The VR Shoes use motorized components and proprietary software to simulate natural walking while the user remains stationary in the real world. Freeaim aims to provide an alternative to sliding VR treadmills and large omnidirectional platforms, which have historically been expensive and less accessible to general consumers.

How much do the Freeaim VR Shoes cost?

Two models are being offered at discounted early-bird prices for the first 48 hours of the Kickstarter campaign:

• VR Shoes Light at GBP £799 (approx. USD $1,079)
• VR Shoes Advanced at GBP £1,049 (approx. USD $1,399)

Deliveries are expected to begin in late 2025 or early 2026. Shipping is available to the USA, Canada, EU, UK, Switzerland, Norway, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, and Singapore.

What’s included in the launch?

Freeaim is also releasing two new optional support frames: the Swivel Frame, designed for users familiar with traditional treadmill-style setups, and the Hex Frame, aimed at those seeking more freedom of movement.

According to the company, the campaign will help scale up manufacturing and test broader market demand for powered VR locomotion. Freeaim noted that it has previously worked with business customers and partners in the immersive technology space.
