USA-based smart fitness brand Amp Fit recently announced a product recall of its AMP MP2 Smart Fitness Machine, involving approximately 1,900 units.
The primary reason for the recall is a structural defect in the adjustable training arm’s locking mechanism, which may fail to fully lock under certain usage conditions, thereby posing potential personal injury risks.
Failure of the locking mechanism to fully engage can cause unexpected swinging of the training arm
According to the recall announcement on the website of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC):
The locking mechanism of the training arm of the AMP MP2 fitness equipment may fail to fully engage mechanically under certain usage scenarios. When the locking mechanism is not fully locked, the training arm may swing unexpectedly or release suddenly during resistance-bearing or user force application, thereby increasing the risk of users suffering from impacts, cuts, or other serious personal injuries during training.
As of now, Amp Fit has received 10 reports of accidents related to this defect. These accidents have resulted in personal injuries of varying degrees, including head cuts, shoulder bruises, and injuries to other parts of the body.
Product Positioning: Wall-mounted Smart Strength Training Equipment
The AMP MP2 Smart Fitness Machine involved in the recall is a wall-mounted, minimalist-designed smart strength training device, primarily targeting the home fitness market.
The product supports resistance training of up to approximately 100 pounds (about 45 kilograms) and can achieve full-body strength training through adjustable training arms. The equipment also integrates Amp Fit’s digital training platform, which can provide personalized training guidance and intelligent data tracking through a mobile application and automatically adjust training parameters according to the user’s strength level. It is one of the more representative products in current smart home fitness devices.

Industry Observation: Structural Safety of Smart Fitness Equipment Under Scrutiny Again
In recent years, with the continuous growth of smart fitness equipment and home strength training devices in the global market, products are facing increasingly strict regulatory reviews and market attention regarding mechanical structural safety, reliability of locking mechanisms, and risk assessment under extreme usage scenarios.
Industry insiders point out that the continuous enhancement of intelligent and digital functions cannot replace the verification of basic mechanical structural safety and durability. This recall incident once again reminds manufacturers, brand owners, and supply chain companies to further strengthen the reliability testing of mechanical locking systems and long-term usage safety assessments during product design, verification, and mass production stages to reduce potential product liability and compliance risks.
