Merrithew International, Inc., a leading Pilates education and equipment provider, has acquired Gyrotonic, bringing together two prominent mind-body disciplines. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Founded by Juliu Horvath, Gyrotonic uses pulley-based resistance machines that blend yoga, dance, tai chi, and gymnastics to enhance flexibility, strength, and joint mobility. Its sister practice, Gyrokinesis, is performed on a mat or stool without heavy equipment, focusing on functional strength and tension release. Both methods are taught in studios and wellness centers worldwide.
Gyrotonic now joins Merrithew’s program portfolio, which includes Stott Pilates, Zen-Ga, Total Barre, and Halo Training.
Merrithew said the acquisition strengthens its ability to serve instructors, studios, and wellness professionals with an expanded offering of education, training, and equipment rooted in whole-body movement.
Since 1988, Merrithew has trained over 90,000 instructors in more than 135 countries and manufactures a wide range of Pilates equipment and fitness accessories.
“This is an incredibly meaningful moment for Merrithew and the broader mindful movement community,” said CEO Jim Heidenreich. “The addition of Gyrotonic expands our global reach, deepens our movement education portfolio, and reinforces our long-term vision of changing lives through mindful movement.”
