In January 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of 47,000 treadmills due to a fire hazard. According to the CPSC, the power cord can become loose from the treadmill’s power socket, increasing the risk of fire. Similar issues have also been reported in treadmills from other brands.
Recently, I visited Xiamen Runfa, a power cord manufacturer, where they demonstrated their self-locking connector designed to prevent loosening between the plug and socket. In this video, I discuss with Mr. Zhang, Director at Runfa, how the loosening occurs on treadmills and why it leads to fire hazards involving the power cord and socket. We hope this educational content helps treadmill developers recognize potential risks and adopt effective measures to ensure product safety and user protection.
