On Thursday, November 6, 2025, multiple U.S. media outlets reported that smart fitness brand Peloton has announced another large-scale product , involving approximately 833,000 Bike+ stationary bikes. The recall follows reports that the seat post broke and detached during use, leading to two injury incidents. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued an official notice, urging consumers to stop using the affected products immediately.

According to the CPSC, this recall covers all original Bike+ units manufactured between 2019 and 2022, which were sold between January 2020 and April 2025. Peloton stated that it will provide consumers with a free replacement seat post, which can be self-installed at home.

In a company statement, Peloton said, “The integrity of our products and the well-being of our Members are always our top priorities.” The company also encouraged all users to request the new replacement part as soon as possible to ensure safe operation.

Notably, this is the second recall related to Peloton’s seat post. In May 2023, the company recalled every base Bike model ever sold, totaling 2.2 million units, after receiving 35 reports of the seat post breaking or detaching during use. That earlier issue led to 13 reported injuries, including a fractured wrist, lacerations, and bruises. The recall cost the company at least $40 million in replacement expenses and caused 15,000 to 20,000 users to temporarily pause their monthly subscriptions.

This latest event marks Peloton’s fifth recall since its founding. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the company has faced major challenges from shifting consumer behavior as well as recurring product safety incidents. Beyond its Bike lineup, Peloton also recalled its Tread+ treadmill in 2021 after a child was tragically killed in an accident.

Just over a month ago, Peloton relaunched its product lineup, raised prices, and introduced new features ahead of the crucial holiday shopping season. The current fiscal quarter represents the company’s peak period for hardware sales, and this recall is expected to further test Peloton’s brand image and financial performance during this critical time.

Peloton is scheduled to release its fiscal Q1 2026 earnings report after market close on Thursday.

✅ Commentary:

Peloton’s repeated recalls and product quality issues reveal significant weaknesses in its processes during its rapid expansion phase. For the broader smart fitness industry, maintaining the right balance among innovation, cost efficiency, and product safety has become a defining factor for long-term brand competitiveness.
